Gary and his Dad
Gary and his Dad

With a treasury and a tropical paradise to his name, Gary hopes to give his girlfriend Chloe (Megan Stevenson) the wedding she wants, and finally attain the success he’s yearned for. Even if it is at the expense of his people. When struggling real-estate agent Gary Vasisi (Josh Thomson) is called back to his homeland in the Pacific, he’s handed a great opportunity – the chance to take his dying father’s (Dave Fane) crown and become Chief of an island that is rapidly sinking into the ocean.

A new Kiwi-Pacific comedy from the creators of 7 DAYS (downlowconcept), Gary of the Pacific is in cinemas from March 16.

Gary has been a labour of love for the Downlow Concept’s trio of Jarrod Holt, Ryan Hutchings and Nigel McCulloch, who started work on their first movie script after the success of their short film Brown Peril, which also starred Thomson and won the 48 Hour Film Festival competition in 2006.

NZ HERALD 3 Stars “Audiences will delight in a bevy of local comedy talent, a cross section of hall-of-famers like Leigh Hart and exciting up-and-comers weirdos like Sanjay Patel. It’s also worth praise for a genuinely stunning background that nearly puts Moana to shame, beautifully shot.”
STUFF 3 Stars “Has got its heart in the right place, enough laughs to get over the line and it fair reeks of inventiveness, optimism and a group of people who would do anything they possibly could to get a laugh. To quote another, better film, ‘That’ll do, pig.’”
