Council gets ready to start Ruapuke Road Seal Extension Project

Waikato District Council is getting set to undertake seal extension and reconstruction work in Ruapuke Road early in 2011.

by announcing a temporary road closure, both Day and Night from 17 January to 18 February 2011. For the period of closure detours will be in place. Emergency services will be available should they be required.

Project summary

Ruapuke Road is a rural local road extending from Te Mata Road to Whaanga Road near Ruapuke Beach in the Whaingaroa Ward. The project consists of sealing an isolated 840m section from RP 5.42 to RP 6.26.

Project description

The design involves overlaying the existing pavement with some improvements to the alignment where required. The volume of earthworks for this project is large: 20,920m3 cut to waste and 5,269m3 cut to fill. Road closure may be allowable if approval is given by the Engineer (42 days notice must be received before the implementation of a road closure). This project is also subject to an Environment Waikato Resource Consent.

New pavement is to be constructed with a 150mm deep layer of blue/brown rock subbase,
overlaid with 180mm TNZ M/4 AP40 basecourse. The completed pavement is then to be
sealed with grade 3 chipseal to a minimum width of 7m.

Strada Corporation Ltd has been awarded the Contract in the sum of $606,940.71 and the works are expected to be complete by 27 May 2011.

Notice is hereby given that the Waikato District Council, for the purpose of Road Reconstruction, will close Ruapuke Road for the period set out below. For the period of closure detours will be in place. Emergency services will be available should they be required.
