A poll about the Raglan Structure Plan(Variation 15) running on The Raglan Website over the last few weeks attracted only 32 voters and only 6 of those people supported some or all of the Variation 15 proposals. The low interest is surprising given the popular out cry against Variation 15. Twenty people either opposed all or most parts of variation 15.
The process for public participation in the consideration of the variation is as follows:
· After the closing date for submissions, the Council must prepare a summary of the submissions and this summary must be publicly notified- Council is working on this now;
· There must be an opportunity to make a further submission in support of, or in opposition to, the submissions already made- likely to be in 2011;
· If a person making a submission asks to be heard in support of his or her submission, a hearing must be held;
· Waikato District Council must give its decisions on the proposal (including its reasons for accepting or rejecting submissions);
· Any person who has made a submission has the right to appeal the decision on the proposal to the Environment Court.
So still some way to go with Variation 15.
