Daily Covid cases in Raglan, Hamilton and central Waikato still bubbling up to 400

by A Contributor May 30, 2022

New cases in Raglan, Hamilton and central Waikato are still bubbling up to 400 plus a day, up from a low point of 200 daily cases in early May. This means that there is likely to be 8 new cases of Covid in Raglan each day with about 42 active community cases, self isolating.

For our graph we have combined new daily cases numbers in Hamilton City, Raglan and other Waikato District areas (e.g. Tamahere, Whatawhata, Ngaruawahia, Huntly and Gordonton). Starting from a high level of over 1200 daily cases in early March, the numbers plateaued at about 1000 then began to slowly drop down to just over half the peak to 785 on 25th March and then tracked at about 200 a day in early May. Since then, new cases numbers have been trending towards 400 a day.

There are 530 new cases reported in the Waikato DHB area on Friday 27th May.

The total number of cases in this Waikato outbreak is now 96,757 (3781 active and 92,976 recovered).

There were 103 vaccinations given in Waikato yesterday.

There are 27 COVID-19 positive individuals receiving care at Waikato DHB hospitals – this is a mix of patients who are receiving care for COVID-19 and those receiving care for an unrelated condition who have also tested positive. No patients in HDU or ICU.

NEED A TEST?

People should only get tested if they have cold or flu symptoms, have been identified as household contact of a positive COVID-19 case and need a day 3 or day 7 test, or have been asked to get tested by a health official.

Symptoms can be different for everyone. Be vigilant. If you notice anything developing, even a tickle in the throat, get a test. The most common early symptoms of the Omicron variant are a sore or scratchy throat, and a runny nose.

Free Rapid antigen tests (RATs) are now the primary form of testing in the community for people who have symptoms or are a Household Contact. You can pick up a test at our community collection centres. Some sites are offering supervised RAT tests.

From 23rd May, the Covid RATs Community Collection Site (Pre-order required) site for Raglan has moved to the Raglan Food Bank at 36 Bow Street, Raglan. (Between the Gym and the Vet.)

It will be open:

  • Mon 9:30 AM – 11:30 AM
  • Wed 9:30 AM – 11:30 AM
  • Fri 9:30 AM – 11:30 AM

Rapid antigen tests (RATs) can be ordered and then collected at this site by:

  • people with COVID-19 symptoms or who are a household contact
  • critical workers who are household contacts
  • border workers who are required to be tested under the Required Testing Order.

Before going to a collection site, you must place an order via https://requestrats.covid19.health.nz/ OR free call 0800222478
