Black Sands 2009 Fly In

Scores of light aircraft made RaglanAirfield their home for the weekend of the 7th and 8th November.    2009 is the 4th year of Black Sands, which is a highlight of the sports aviation calendar.  The Black Sands Fly In is organised by the Waikato Thames Valley Chapter of the Sport Aircraft Association and is open to anyone interested in recreational aircraft, be it custombuilts, microlights, gyro copters, gliding, model aircraft, vintage and warbird or factory built GA aircraft.

The aims of the weekend are:
1. Have fun
2. Meet other people with similar ideas
3. Promote safe sport flying and encourage good airmanship
4. Raise funds for the WTV Chapter hangar project
5. Have fun!

The location of Raglan airfield was chosen because of the many other activities within easy reach, and the accommodation facilities at the Raglan Kopua Holiday Park.   The “Beach Flying” workshop provided particpants with an opportunity to experience landing on the remote and beautiful west coast Gibson’s beach.  “The Western Waikato Fly – Around Challenge” provides them with a chance to explore some of the local area and visit other airfields in the area.
