27 covid cases in Whāingaroa. DHB does not have data for RATs cases

There were 445 new cases found with PCR tests by Waikato DHB in the Waikato on Friday 25th. Three new cases in Raglan Whāingaroa, along with cases now confirmed to the area lifts the total of active covid cases from twenty four to twenty seven. Please see image for all Waikato locations. There are 92 cases where the location has still to be determined.

Waikato DHB does not have any data on new cases found with RATs tests. The Ministry of Health on Friday 25th, reported 544 cases in the Waikato from this type of testing and 388 from PCR tests. So a total of 932 new cases in the Waikato.

Our updated projection of Raglan Whāingaroa cases based on the Waikato DHB PCR data, using polynomial curve fit modelling, still indicates that there may be over 70 community cases in Raglan by early March. See graph. If RATs case data were included in the model it is likely that the projection would be double this.

The total number of cases in this Waikato outbreak as shown below is now 3780  (1956 active and 1824 recovered).

There were 2200 tests processed in Waikato yesterday and 2369 vaccinations given.

There are 15 COVID-19 positive individuals receiving care in Waikato Hospital.

Note: Previously listed case locations will at times be reclassified following investigations. Some cases have been allocated to locations outside Waikato so contribute to our case totals but are not listed in case locations. Figures include some cases residing outside Waikato. The Ministry of Health’s daily reported cases (388 PCR and 544 RAT today) will differ from those reported at a DHB or local public health unit level. This is because their total number of cases reported will now include those identified from both RATs and PCR tests, along with different reporting cut off times and the assignment of cases between regions, for example when a case is tested outside their usual region of residence.

TESTING

People should only get tested if they have cold or flu symptoms, have been identified as household contact of a positive COVID-19 case and need a day 3 or day 10 test, or have been asked to get tested by a health official.
The most common early symptoms of the Omicron variant are a sore or scratchy throat, and a runny nose.

Rapid Antigen Tests (RATs) are available at Waikato Community Testing Centres. The testing team will determine whether you need a rapid antigen test (RAT).  Please visit our testing locations page for more information www.waikatodhb.health.nz/cbac or www.healthpoint.co.nz/covid-19/waikato

NOTE: RAT testing at GPs and Pharmacies

  • At this time, please do not call or visit your GP for a RAT unless you have COVID-19 symptoms.
  • Pharmacies are not able to provide RATs for those with symptoms or contacts. They are only able to provide RATs for unvaccinated asymptomatic people required to attend court or to travel overseas.
