This Monday 21st April, the Waikato Times featured Raglan’s Vera van der Voorden in its Monday Profile spot. The article by Chris Gardner covers how Vera cofounded Kiwis Against Seabed Mining in 2004 after Angeline Greensill brought the issue to the community’s attention. It goes on to describe how Vera took a week out of her life to attend Environmental Protection Authority’s hearing on the application by Trans Tasman resources to mine the seabed.

Vera said, “For me it is unbelievable that this government has just offered up another 40 million hectares of seabed without waiting to see the consequence of current activities on our marine environment.”

The hearing will end in Wellington about 8th May. The authority will then make a decision twenty days later.

KASM is having a fundraising gig at the Raglan Club on May 3. Tickets are $20.
