Waikato District Council advises that while temporary repairs to the treated wastewater outfall pipe in Raglan have been completed, a permanent solution is still required to prevent future failure.
Design work for the final repair is complete. However, as the outfall pipe crosses privately owned land, access requires careful consideration. Council and Watercare are continuing to engage with the affected party to reach agreement on access for the work to proceed.
Council remains committed to working in good faith and in partnership with mana whenua to find a constructive path forward. While emergency powers under the Local Government Act remain available should urgent action be required, Council’s preference is to collaborate with key stakeholders and reach a shared understanding.
Council aims to implement the agreed solution before any further failure occurs and appreciates the community’s patience as this important work progresses.
