Raglan Community Board meeting on 7th Dec at 1.00pm

Summary by Linda Cole of agenda for Raglan Community Board meeting on 7th Dec at 1.00pm:

These are some of the items on the CEO’s agenda:-

Correspondence – have you written to RCB or WDC recently? Did you get a response – let me know!

1. We asked for housing for the elderly to be on the agenda. The agenda just says that Clint and Rodger “have met with the proposer of the project”. I’d welcome more information before the meeting.

2. Similarly we asked for civil defence to be discussed. The only information on the agenda is that it is run by Waikato Valley Emergency Operating Area. I feel strongly that this is not adequate response to a question raised.

3. We’re promised a timeline for the wharf. Wharfage fees are now being charged.

4. Bob is reporting on a booking system for the Scout Hut. Council has got back to me and negotiation is underway to reestablish a land lease with Scouting NZ – a good result.

5. Work on new footpaths is another part of the agenda not on the web site, though it is at http://waidc.govt.nz/Documents-Library/Files/Your-Council/Agendas-2010/101110_RT_A.aspx (from page 52), along with all the other roading schemes. Marine Pde (Wainui Rd to Nihinihi) is 7th on that list, Wi Neera (Bow to footbridge) is 8th, Wainui Rd (Smith St-Te Hutewai Rd) is 10th, Long St (at John St) 14th, Stewart St (top) 21st, Simon Rd (to Manukau) 22nd, Rose St 23rd and 27 others 2013 or later. I want to know why Raglan is so low on the list; 18 of the last 41 are Raglan footpaths.

6. To pay for the museum and rugby rooms WDC has been trying to sell land since November 2005! Following a geotech assessment, they now need a resource consent as the Greenslade Rd house site is within 5m of the boundary. An offer has been made for Kaitoke St (bottom of East St), but WDC is getting a valuation. Long St is ‘looking for offers’. Cambrae Rd isn’t mentioned, though it still has a for sale sign.

7. I thought we were getting a secondhand toilet from Huntly to replace the demolished Wainui Rd toilet. WDC is now doing a tender report for a new Twin Exeloo. The Water & Facilities agenda said $227,600 and complete by 20 Dec. This issue should have been resolved prior to the demolition of the existing toilets – we have a problem with insufficient public facilities and the busy season approaching fast.

8. The museum may be delayed by discovery of a midden site under it and design of the base of the building beside the beach. It seems Ngati Mahanga was not consulted about the design.

9. In August 2009 Council decided its next bus shelter would be in Raglan West. We’re now promised a plan of it, surely we could expect uniformity in structure and appearance?

10. There’s a meeting with footbridge builder HEB on Wednesday, but I don’t know who’s invited. Work is planned to start in March and end in November.

11. Tree roots in the Lorenzen Bay sewage pipe are to be removed.

12. Raglan Cultural & Events Trust Information Board (between Hall & Plunket Room) is said to belong to Council and be administered by RCB. Richard Bax has since emailed telling me he is happy with Raglan Cultural & Events Trust administering the sign – on condition that reports are received on how funds received are reinvested in the community – remembering the board cannot operate a bank account.

13. We need to appoint for the Raglan Coastal Reserves Advisory Committee, and the Town Hall Committee. The wind farm committee is not part of the board portfolio and at the discretion of Meridian Energy – always good to have community representation though.

14. Design for upgrade of the water treatment plant is starting.

15. We’re asked to keep Peter Storey as our rep on the Raglan Hospital Trust, I support this move although council was hasty with this as the members of the committee serve a four year tenure and Peter’s is yet to finish.

16. Money to give away – $14,853 to last us till July – the Lions want $1,190 for the New Year parade. Community House wants $3,750 for the Community & Environment Festival (including raft race). I understand the Community House will not require this full amount as they have received additional funding from a philanthropic trust.

Thanks for taking the time to read and respond.
