After winning an award in the Raglan ArtoWear Awards earlier this year, Elizabeth Hosking has gone on to be judged the supreme winner in ReStyle 2010. After taking more than three years and 2500 bread bag tags to make her mermaid-style gown on Saturday night she won again at Hamilton’s Founders Theatre for her eco-outfit called Tag and Release. ReStyle 2010, in its 10th year, aims to get people to recycle waste into fashion.
The design has an environmental message focusing on ocean pollution. Mrs Hosking said, “There is something like 2.4 million pounds of plastic entering the ocean every hour.”
The outfit won the Avant Garbage open section and then went on to win the supreme award. The prize was $1000 cash from The Body Shop and a trophy designed by Hamilton artist Marti Wong.
