PUBLIC INVITED TO DISCUSS RAGLAN STRUCTURE PLAN

The public are invited to discuss the proposed Raglan Structure Plan at an open day to be held on Wednesday 18 August in Raglan.

Waikato District Council extended the closing date to 23 July for an extra four weeks to allow the public more time to consider the amendments proposed under Variation 15 after listening to public feedback. All written submissions must now be received on or before 27 August 2010.

“The open day gives the Raglan community an ideal opportunity to explore the options more fully and ask questions from key Council staff before making a submission,” said Chief Executive Gavin Ion.

“We would like to assure people who have already made a submission, that there is no need to re-lodge submissions with Council. All submissions received will be treated as valid and any person is able to make a submission on the proposal.”

Variation 15: Raglan Structure Plan details a number of amendments to the proposed Waikato District Plan. Some of these amendments include creating a heritage precinct within the Raglan town centre, applying the Town Centre Policy area to the Raglan Wharf and inserting rules affecting the Raglan town centre business zone.

Deputy Mayor, Clint Baddeley said it is important that Raglan people consider all the issues and the impact on the future of the area.

“This is an opportunity for Raglan people to have input on how we preserve Raglan’s character and contribute ideas to where growth may occur in a managed way,” he said.

A public open day will be held on Wednesday 18 August at the Raglan Town Hall, Bow Street, from 2.30pm until 7.00pm. Council representatives will be available to discuss aspects of Variation 15: Raglan Structure Plan and answer any questions.

Copies of the variation and background information are available at Council’s Ngaruawahia and Raglan offices, and can be viewed on Council’s website www.waikatodistrict.govt.nz
