After Ngaruawahia increased water rates in Raglan by 124% over the last few years (from $200 to $448), it has now decided to spend that money. Raglandic folk have been asking what the work is that is going on right now between Hills Rd and Greenslade Rd on State Highway 23.
Lots of holes have been dug and shiny blue pipe is being laid. The project involves installing a new water main from the Hills Rd Reservoir to the existing water main in Greenslade Rd. The new main will increase the water pressure in Greenslade Rd and provide a ‘ring feed’ to ensure supply if there is ever a cut pipe. Staff from Potter Construction are busy laying the new water main at a cost of $192,000. Although the work had been programmed to be finished by the end of May, Waikato District Council now say that it will be finished by June.
Another big ticket water project coming up for Raglan is the upgrade of the water treatment plant at Riki Springs. Design on this project is meant to be complete about now with construction at a cost of $462,000 due to be complete by September.
