A feel-good, heartwarming story about how music can inspire you. Grumpy pensioner Arthur honors his recently deceased wife’s passion for performing by joining the unconventional local choir to which she used to belong, a process that helps him build bridges with his estranged son, James.

Song for Marion stars Terence Stamp as Arthur, a grumpy pensioner who can’t understand why his wife Marion (Vanessa Redgrave) would want to embarrass herself singing silly songs with her unconventional local choir. But choir director Elizabeth (Gemma Arterton) sees something special in the reluctant Arthur and refuses to give up on him. As she coaxes him out of his shell, Arthur realizes that it is never too late to change and, aged 70, Arthur finally dares to unlock his emotions and reach out to his estranged son, James (Christopher Eccleston).

Otago Daily Times 5/5 “Vanessa Redgrave is as wonderful as you would expect but it is Terence Stamp who surprises. I have mainly seen him play villains, but here as a decent man trying to cope, he is heartbreaking.”

Southland Times 3.5/5 “portrays love and loss in a honest and heart-breaking way. It is a true love story which will leave even the cold-hearted with a warm but sad feeling in their heart. Be prepared: bring tissues.”

Manawatu Standard 4/5  “A good chortle with a sad storyline.”
