The Labour party has announced that it has selected Penny Gaylor as its candidate for the Raglan-Taranaki-King Country electorate in the 2014 General Election. Currently a District Councillor for Kapiti Council, Penny says she has already ventured into the vast Raglan-Taranaki-King Country electorate by visiting Inglewood. (Well done Penny. How about visiting Raglan next!)
Penny Gaylor lives on a farmlet on the outskirts of Otaki with her Otaki-born and bred husband, Kerry Bevan and sons, five-year-old Louis and three-year-old Giorgio. Penny’s oldest son Matt is at university. She is the liaison person for various voluntary environmental and conservation groups throughout the Otaki area, as well as the local foodbank. With these responsibilities, and living in a rural area, the concerns and interests of the local rural sector are very much on Penny’s personal radar as well.
“As a communications and marketing specialist in the public and not-for-profit sectors for more than 20 years, I’ve had plenty of experience seeking the views of and working with diverse communities” says Penny.
“I have experience in government and parliamentary processes, protocols and procedures, along with being astute about political advocacy and lobbying. I’m passionate about advocating on behalf of constituents, and relish the challenges of helping people work through issues with local government and central government.”
Penny has worked twice as a press secretary at Parliament, initially for the Right Honourable David Lange when he was Prime Minister (1986-89) and later for Hon Murray McCully when he was Minister of Customs and Associate Minister of Tourism (1991-93).
Penny has worked in communications roles for the Police (1993-94), the Inland Revenue Department (1994-97), and was Communications Manager for the Ministry of Justice (1997–2002)and Barnardos NZ (2002-2006). Barnardos is the largest not-for-profit children’s organisation in New Zealand.
I was impressed with your up front handling of the breakfast meeting in Raglan. Suggest you use your own personal experience & strengths to advantage, you have much that people relate to. I think it is also well worth while keeping positive we have had enough of what is wrong with whoever. If back here during campaign sing out as I would arrange accommodation in one of my B& B units at no cost Regards Barry Ashby
Hi Barry. Like you I was impressed by Penny. Much more so than any of the others. I can see a potential Prime Minister in her.
