Saturday’s Raglan ‘Snow on the Beach’ saws hundreds of children and parents head to Raglan Domain to enjoy 12 tonnes of snow dropped onto Papahua No. 3 Block next to the Boat Ramp. Organised by the Raglan Community House, this year there were two snow making machines to add to the fun. The string wind and one rainy squall meant that the sound system couldn’t be set up. Raglan Community House organiser Tony Agar had to improvise and used a road cone as a megaphone.

Kaumatua Sean Ellinson opened ‘Snow on the Beach’ pointing out that it was the first day of Matariki. After a karakia, the snow field was open for the kids to enjoy it.

At 11.30am the Ray White Mid-winter Swim got underway. Due to the strong southerly, the race was undertaken in reverse direction with the swimmers heading down stream to the launching ramp. Four adults and four  children plunged into the chilly waters, making it to the finish where Dave Hanna of Ray White Raglan Real Estate presented the prizes.

Raglan Community House provided free soup and hot drinks to warm people up.

Than you Raglan Community House, Ray White and Waikato Dsitrict Council.
