Dec 6: Movie- VISUAL ARTIST ROBIN WHITE – GRACE: A PRAYER FOR PEACE

Waikato Times/ The Post, Graeme Tuckett, It seems to me that Grace: A Prayer For Peace has been made as a shared endeavour by two artists who are each producing some of the best work of their careers. White can convey endlessly revisitable ideas with a few perfectly placed lines, and I reckon we could say something similar about what Preston – and her editors, Lala Rolls and Paul Sutorius – have achieved here. This is an absorbing, engrossing, moving and often very funny piece of work. Make sure you see it on the biggest screen you can.“.

GRACE: A Prayer for Peace is a visual poem that invites reflection on creativity and the human condition. Neither an artist profile nor a biopic, GRACE was devised by filmmaker Dame Gaylene Preston during rewarding conversations with the artist.

GRACE aims to not only illuminate and explore the visual art of Dame Robin White (Ngāti Awa), but to become its own artefact – a piece of collaborative art that frames a deeper engagement with the principles and poetics of Robin White’s work.

DIRECTOR and WRITER: Gaylene Preston
PRODUCERS: Susana Lei’ataua, Danny Bultitude, Catherine Madigan

Did you know that you have to stir clockwise when you stir your oatmeal? Otherwise you’re letting the devil into your porridge.

OFFICIAL SELECTION: Edinburgh Film Festival, Sydney Film Festival and New Zealand’s British and Irish Film Festival.

The Guardian 4/5 Stars. “A cosy celebration of porridge and its champions”

Virginia’s sister saw this in Bristol a few weeks ago and strongly recommended it. So Rodger tracked it down and here it is screening in Raglan. This is in the same genre as Pecking Order that we screened a few years ago. Except in Golden Spurtle instead of hens, we follow the champions trying to make the world’s best porridge.
