I was walking past the Raglan cenotaph the other day when I noticed another sign installed in the cenotaph area. This latest sign is a Water Alert sign that has been fastened to our town flagpole with nylon ties. A few months ago Waikato District Council installed a No Stopping sign in the grass area between the flagpole and the cenotaph.
These signs in this sensitive area that is the focus of the ANZAC Day commemoration disrespect Raglan’s war heros. The Council needs to remove these tacky signs.
If the Council wishes to publicise its Water Alert, there are ample light standards to use in Bow Street.
Stopping cars from parking on the median strip in the cenotaph area can be achieved by means other than an ugly parking sign. A previous Town Manager achieved it by placing rocks around the area. What would look better and more appropriate would be a 50cm picket fence to define the area. It would keep vehicles out and small gaps in the fence would let people in.
Yes more disrespect.
Did you notice the engraved names are painted in YELLOW paint and roughly smeared all over the stone. Also the cenotaph was very roughly cleaned.
These other things, the bad cleaning job and the disgusting paint job have been reported but still nothing is done about it.
Now public signs installed IN the area.
The yellow paint job was done very poorly and a mess left. And that bright shade of yellow is inappropriate
Yep fair comment Rodger. I am sure it wasn’t done with any harm intended. Alan Vink
