Film lovers – put the weekend of 19 and 20 April in your diary, with two homegrown movies set to screen.
The Deadly Ponies Gang, Saturday 19 April, 8pm and Sunday 20 April, 4.30pm. (65 minutes, NZ 2013. R13, Drug use and offensive language.)
Documentarian Zoe McIntosh follows the lives of “bestest” mates Clint and Dwayne – the only two members of the Deadly Ponies Gang, who trawl the edges of rural west Auckland on their pimped out rides. (We’re talking steeds decorated with glitter, beads, and sunglasses).
Not short of a suave move with the ladies, Clint worries that Dwayne’s not pulling the way he once did- most likely because he has no teeth (“I’m less of a man without the teeth”).
So, Clint organizes a gig to fundraise for a new set, the “help my mate Dwayne get some teeth fundraising gig,” and the pair head off in search of hustling, riding and partying.
Best comedy feature film at the Houston International Film Festival.
“Zoe McIntosh’s one-of-a-kind, only-in-New Zealand docu-comedy is a generous spirited, big hearted ode to the power of friendship that could force a smile onto the face of even the most hardened cinematic cynic.” Dominic Corry, New Zealand Herald.
Special for 8pm Saturday screening: Director Zoe McIntosh will be at screening to introduce her movie and will stay for a Q & A afterwards.
Xtreme Waste, Community Enterprise, Saturday 19 April 4.30pm and Sunday 20 April 8pm.
“You’ve got two options in life. You can sit around and moan about how the government, or the council, or someone – anyone but you – should be doing something about a problem you’ve spotted. Or you can get off your backside and sort it out yourself.”
Learn how a community group can take the place of a profit making business and achieve social and environmental goals for the benefit of its community – and do a better job in the process.
Special for 4.30pm Saturday and 8.00pm Sunday screening: Director Aaron Mooar will be at the screenings for a Q & A.
