Agenda for Raglan Community Board meeting on Tuesday 13th August

(Note although the analysis says below that correspondence ‘relates to Sunday bus’, this is incorrect.  The correspondence relates to a local Monday to Friday Raglan bus service which is now not proceeding.)

  1. Spatial Plan – report to go to September Finance Committee.

  3. Water Treatment plant upgrade – $765,000 estimate is higher than $462,814 allocated, so “staff will confirm options available”. [does that mean not all the work is essential?] Detailed information on design to be given to next RCB meeting.

  5. Sewage spill – pond overflow on 21 June being investigated.

Let me know if you think WED should be taking up other issues not on the agenda. The Residents & Ratepayers have arranged a Meet the Candidates meeting for 10am in the Town Hall on Saturday 7 September. Nominations (http://waidc.govt.nz/Your-Council/Elections/Nomination-Papers-2013/Nominees.aspx) close this Friday 16 August. So far there are no environmentally friendly candidates.

Thanks

John Lawson

  1. Sorry about the bus assumption. However, it does seem a local bus for elderly shoppers might go ahead if enough volunteers can be found – contact Community House.
The photo has created some comment. I’ve had these –
“the signs on Bow St i see as an absolute non-issue. Raglan is an eclectic place, not a uniform place. Leave the signs alone and focus on issues that impact residents quality of life and standard of living, not offend their senses of order and tidiness. Would like to share my views at the meeting but Tuesdays are always busy for me.”
” You would think they had bigger things to worry about than a few signs at the end of the main st. I think they should be supporting all our struggling little businesses.”
“I like the community feel of handmade signs for wharf business etc.”

  2. The signs in the main street on the median strip are prohibited under the District Plan. A Raglan resident lodged a complaint about them. Staff are following up on that with a proposal that would allow the signs to be there in a way that complies with the District Plan. The alternative is to remove all of the signs. Another option would be to amend the District Plan to allow ad hoc signs on the median strip. If that’s what Raglanders want, then an advocate of that plan change needs to stand for the Council and push it through.
