We noticed that the Marlin Cafe & Grill has a new head chef. Natalie Hopkins says she has come up with a menu that has retained the classics from the old Marlin menu and complemented them with new dishes. I always think that the one of the best times to goo to the Marlin is for lunch on a sunny still Autumn day. You can sit out front and watch the boats come and go on the harbour with the steep hills on the north side of the harbour as the backdrop.

Virginia and I selected table at the end of the deck with a good view of the harbour. In Raglan style we helped ourselves to copies of the new menu. I selected the seafood salad and Virgina had the chicken salad. There was a bit of delay before a waiter came for our order. After a short time he delivered it to our table. The seafood salad was served in a large bowl with the salad on the top and a selection of fish, scallops, prawns and in-shell mussels on top. It was served with a very tasty lime flavoured dressing. The meal although in the ‘entree’ section was a bit large for lunch. It was certainly great eating.

Virginia’s chicken salad was plated with a garden salad and slices of grilled chicken on top. It was served with some toasted bread. She enjoyed it.

The meals both cost $27, which is a bit much for lunch. there was a calamari entree available as a special for $18, so there are a few lower cost items available, but most are fairly pricey for lunch.

Overall on Value for Money I gave The Marlin a Seven out of Ten for a well cooked, tasty and well presented meal plus satisfactory service.

You can usually get a table at the Marlin, but on summer autumn days at the weekends the premium tables with a view of the harbour go quickly.
