WDC says that the popular Papahua Reserve pump track in Raglan is set to get a makeover and will be closed from Monday, 16 March.
The Council says they’re replacing the asphalt surface with concrete, improving the stability of the ground and drainage. The works mean the pump track will be closed until mid-May (weather permitting).
The track is in poor condition and requires significant repairs and ground stabilisation to restore safety, functionality and extend its lifespan. Previous patch repairs have only provided temporary relief, and the council says that improving the sub-base and ground stability, plus concrete will solve the problem.
Council’s Capital Projects Programme Manager Don Anand says the new concrete surface will provide greater longevity and less maintenance.
Don said, “And from a users’ perspective, a concrete surface is considered smoother and faster, and higher energy, with its rigidness helping maintain maximum and consistent momentum, and speed through pumps.”
