Raglan’s newest bridge

Waikato District Council finished this new bridge in the Wainui Bush Park on Monday 7th. It spans the Wainui Stream and allows WDC’s mowers to cross the stream without the risk of getting stuck in the ford. It is supported by two solid timbers. The bridge has been designed to be submersible when the stream floods. After completing it the WDC workers were off to build new steps on Wainui Reserve.

Wainui Bush Park Chair John Lawson said, “Seems like the end of financial year spend up is producing quite a few projects, though with little, or no, consultation.” Although he added, “Friends of Wainui were able to use the bridge during their tree planting work on Monday morning.”

So John seems happy with the bridge but would have liked Friends of Wainui volunteers to have been consulted about it before it was built.

The next tree planting at the Wainui Bush Park will be from 9am on Monday 21 July. All volunteers welcome.  Phone John on 825 7866.
