Mar 14, 28: Movie – TENOR ~ MY NAME IS PATI

The remarkable story of charismatic Samoan opera star Pene Pati who sang his way from humble origins in Samoa onto the world’s greatest opera stages.

What distinguishes the film is its blend of intimacy and performance. Moments of everyday playfulness, Mario Kart, shared humor, and brotherly warmth sit alongside reflections on a difficult childhood, guided by their father. This grounds the story in emotional honesty without tipping into sentimentality. The result is a portrait that feels deeply human.” Aaron Goldstein, Spoiler free reviews.

There’s always an air of mystique about The Big Bike Film Night; we’re not your typical mainstream film festival, we’re left field and damn proud of it.

Mar 14: Movie – HOLY DAYS

A lost boy in search of heaven, three offbeat nuns on a mission, a car powered by God (and stolen
money). This is a road trip like no other. A comedic near-tragedy that just keeps going South.

“With her nuns-on-the-run film Holy Days casting Oscar-nominated Australian actors Judy Davis and Jacki Weaver and the 84-year-old force of nature that is Miriam Margolyes, it might seem that debut feature director Nathalie “Nat” Boltt had already been well blessed even before the cameras rolled.“ Russell Baillie, NZ Listener.

In 1970s New Zealand, young Brian is devastated by the loss of his mother and determined to stop his dad from marrying the woman he sees as her replacement. Convinced he can reach his mother through prayer and penance, Brian finds refuge at a run-down convent with three delightfully eccentric elderly nuns. But when he overhears plans to shut the convent down and split the sisters apart, sending the most vulnerable to a terrifying institution, Brian sparks an unlikely mission: escape to the Southern Alps to find a former nun-turned-lawyer who might just save them all. For Brian, it’s more than a legal battle—he believes this is the miracle he’s been praying for, a chance to reunite with his mother atop the sacred mountain, Aoraki.
