Cuddle in close for a real Raglan midwinter treat, a night of song at the YOT Club with Lydia Cole and special guest Tom Lark. This is a tale of two of the country’s outstanding young performers taking to the road in July to bring the delightfully hushed tones of their beautiful music to the country.
Lydia Cole’s enchanting voice wove a series of intimate journeys to the heartscape on her acclaimed album Me & Moon and she brings her Roundhead Studio-recorded album out on tour at last. Gigging alongside the likes of Brooke Fraser and the Acoustic Church Tour’s Boh Runga and Greg Johnson has developed Lydia’s quietly compelling presence on the scene. NZ Musician called the classy Me & Moon “one of the most complete and endearing recordings heard in a long time”.
Accompanying and alongside Lydia Cole on the tour is Christchurch’s Tom Lark. Quake devastation to his band’s practice room forced Tom Lark back to his bedroom last year to create a self-released EP of languid electro-minimalist pop gems. Ricocheting samples are married with folk guitar work, a plaintive voice and a deft sense of storytelling throughout his material and “All Night Long” has graced many local alternative airwaves.
Two quick-witted songwriters mining different ends of the purest vein of folk songwriting, Lydia Cole and Tom Lark are sure to entrance and delight as they come together in this Raglan night.
