Since April, Raglan Wharf has had no ice plant or cold storage. The major fire on April 13 destroyed the cold room and knocked the ice plant out of action. Initially commercial fishing operators and local iwi waited for the Waikato District Council, owner of the wharf, to get these facilities up and running. But when after eight months of waiting, Mark Mathers was told that it would be quicker if he did it, that’s just what he did. Mark as owner of Raglan Seafoods and also a Raglan builder knew just what was needed, so when WDC had approved his plans he started work immediately and the replacement facility is nearing completion.
