The cost of the contract for the Raglan water meter project has increased by 41% equivalent to an increase of $76,487. The contract was let to Potter Civil Construction in February 2011 for $183,513. When Potter Civil began work on the contract they found that additional work was required as a result of:
- Concrete hydrant risers underneath the meter boxes
- Lifting water service pipes to a depth so that the water manifold will be contained in the meter boxes
- Using cast iron meter boxes instead of plastic boxes in sealed or concrete driveways
- Lost time for the contractor due to not being able to locate the water services
- Extra fittings for the water connections that are required but not scheduled.
As a result of this extra work the revised contract sum is now estimated to be $260,000. This amount was approved at the meeting of Waikato District Council held yesterday on 25th October in Ngaruawahia. The increased contract price is still within the overall project budget of $378,000.
